While eating with chopsticks, one need to be very delicate and skilled, so that even the smallest pieces can be picked and placed smoothly. With ‘Chopsticks’, the movie, too you may be able to see the way how the small details have been picked and skillfully used to narrate an unusual story.

Who are you?
What are your limitations?
What are your boundaries?
What’s right and what is not right for you?
What are your preferences and what do you don’t prefer at all?
What kind of personality do you wear and what persona is a complete no-no for you?

We are what we think and what we think is the outcome of the conditioning that we have received from the society. In a way we are nothing but just an abridged version of the society that we live in. ‘Chopsticks’, in many ways, is a journey beyond these limitations.

In a nutshell, it’s a story of an insecure, clumsy girl who gets tricked by thugs who steals her brand new car and to get her car back from a local don, she meets a suave conman who helps her.

There is nothing great in the script. In fact at times it gets slow and stretched and even the direction too isn’t sharp enough. But what works for the film is the performances by its characters. They indeed are the saving grace for the movie.

To play a petite, timid young girl trying to survive and excel in the not so supportive world, one couldn’t have found anyone better than Mithila Palkar to play this character. And as expected, she is bang on throughout the movie. Be it her insecurity or the outburst, her naivety or her innocence you have to admire her performance.

Then you have Abhay Deol in the cast as ‘The Artist’. Artist he IS indeed! Right from his debut in ‘Socha Na Tha’, Abhay Deol has always taken the ‘road less traveled’ and this movie is no exception. He has found his own niche. In the movie he is a conman (again) with sophistication. He is well educated man who always wears pristine white shirt, is a great cook and lives in a flat of an apartment that is under construction. The man has swag and an aura of mystery around him and Abhay Deol as usual has showcased it with great ease.

Vijay Raaz as Faiyaaz Bhaai is phenomenal. He is a local don who loves his pet goat named Baahubali and to punish a renowned singer, has kept him as his personal radio. He hardly has many dialogues in the movie but actors of his caliber do not really require to speak much to act.

It’s not a mainstream movie so don’t expect too much of drama, action, romance and other larger than life things and if you are able to keep such expectations away then you will be able to appreciate the effort. Even though you are not going to find very uplifting reviews for this movie, this is one movie that definitely deserves to be seen.
