Nawazuddin Siddiqui has managed to make a name for himself in Bollywood with his sheer talent as an actor. It’s very natural to see a rise in expectations when you go for a movie starring him in the lead role. I was looking forward to see him in a titular role in the movie Ghoomketu and even though there were bad reviews for the movie all around, I still decided to watch it. You expect content oriented cinema from Nawaz but how deeply disappointed it made me to watch a substandard drama in the name of cinema.
What a waste of talent!
How can you make a bad movie with a starcast that includes Raghubir Yadav, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Ila Arun, Swanand Kirkire, Brijendra Kala and Anurag Kashyap? The writer-direcror Pushpendra Nath Mishra must think many times whenever he is planning to start a new project and then should finally decide not to attempt anything from now on.
The age-old plot had nothing new to offfer. A middle aged average man from a small village trying to infiltrate Mumbai and trying his luck in bollywood as a writer. Have we gone so short on content that we have no other option to repeat the same stories or remake the old movies?
If you have a large heart then you may think to give some benefit of doubt to the team and atleast expect some brilliant performances from such an esteemed list of class actors. But you find each of them struggling in their badly caricatured roles. Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the entire movie is trying too hard to entertain the audience with his antics. It breaks your heart to see that a great actor like Raghubir Yadav has been given a role where he is just supposed to shout at top of his voice. It must have been mentally as well as physically torturing for him. Ila Arun’s character has been made too loud but she still has managed to mark her presence in this below average movie. Anurag Kashyap as Inspector gives you a hint that he can be tried more in an actor’s shoes. But then you come to know that he, Vikramaditya Motwane and Vikas Bahl are associated with this project as producers and then you feel a bit annoyed with them to let such a tragedy happen.
Cameos from Chitrangada Singh, Ranveer Singh, Sonakshi Sinha and Amitabh Bachchan is highly redundant and adds no value to the movie.
I strongly believe that with the same set of actors but a better creative team even this substandard plot can be shaped into a way better cinematic experience. But like the movie there is no point in this belief of mine. For now we will have to adjust with the disaster that has been served in our plates.
