What are you doing during this pandemic? You try some different recipes and try to cook something fancy and delicious. Sometimes it turns out to be a disaster and sometimes it goes beyond imagination.
Outer bank is a dish that has been well cooked, well served and hence the final outcome is fancy and interesting. At the first glance, it looks just like any another series with some American teens doing some mischievous acts but soon the series starts gripping you.
The best part of the series is its cast. Each character fits the bill perfectly. In my opinion, a show is successful if by the end of it you know the actors by their character names, rather than their actual names. This totally happens with the show. John B, JJ, Pope, Kiara, Sarah, Topper, Ward etc. are some names that you will become familiar with while watching this show. Even the comparatively less prominent characters like Rafe, Big John, Scooter, Peterkin, Shoupe etc. have also managed to leave their mark. That’s something that needs appreciation.
The plot of the series is interesting and brings out many twists and turns with a decent pace that keeps audience’s curiosity afloat. There are some moments when the story drags a bit but that much slack can be given to the makers. The good part about the series is that with the central theme of a treasure hunt, the emotional quotient of the characters have been very well dealt with. You become a part of the ‘Pogue-Kook’ rivalry, you appreciate the amazing bond between the friends, you root for John-Sarah’s love story and you too feel the familial connections between the different characters.
The series has a good advantage that you will find the same people involved in the writing, directing an producing the project and that clearly reflects throughout. And it will be a shame to not to talk about the beautiful location and the way it has been captured in the entire series. The camera work is top notch and makes you want to visit the place and have the first hand experience. The sea, the backwaters, the boat rides, the sunsets, the shacks and the beach houses sends you inviting messages in almost each episode of the series.
Outer bank, all in all, is a fast paced story in the hands of capable storytellers, some amazing performers and a breathtaking beautiful locations. The show deserves the next season but it won’t be easy to take it forward for long without tying the loose ends in the story-line.
