Time, death, reality have always excited the human mind.
Constantly, it asks so many questions related to them-
– What happened when I wasn’t there?
– What will happen when I am not going to be there?
– What happens after I die?
– Where do I go after death?
– What is real?
– What is imaginary?
– What if all that I thought to be real was just an imagination, that too not of my own?
The list goes on and on…
The more you dive into it, the more the mind gets excited as well as afraid of it all.
Nothing excites the mind like the unknown.
And the unknown is what the mind fears the most.
It’s a beautiful love-hate story.
You got to be a great storyteller to touch this subject otherwise the mind feels dissatisfied.
“Upload”, the new series on Prime Video, has tried to delve deep into this bottomless abyss.
The series has an interesting take on existence in the coming future. A fictional world where a person can be sent (uploaded) to the virtual world just before their death. In the virtual world, which is coded to be pretty realistic, the uploads get to keep their mind/ memory embedded into a virtual avatar that looks exactly like their human forms and they get all kind of facilities as per the upload plan they have opted for. It’s more like an mobile service plan that can be upgraded and downgraded as per the usage and has some hacks and glitches with it. You can call it a new way of mummification where the mummies are living “normal” lives.
You can remain connected with the ‘real’ world and an angel (relationship manager cum tech-support) is assigned to you to take you through this journey. Even minor glitches in code here and there have been added, which have really been well imagined and designed.
With all these, you also get some drama, suspense, murder mystery, romance, emotions through the course of the series. The series keeps you engaged as there are so many interesting things happening all the time. Satire and pun have been efficiently utilized in the script.
It seems sarcasm is the new comedy. And this series is no exception.

The cast has played their parts well. It’s an advantage to work with a new star-cast as you don’t have their previous works as benchmark to compare with and hence they bring a lot of freshness and newness in their work.
With stories like this, there are endless possibilities. This fact can prove to be a boon but has an equal potential to knock you out as a bane as well. With “Upload”, as I mentioned earlier, you have a good time while watching, you get entertained but you won’t remember it for long. After watching the series you will feel nice but you won’t be very curious to look at the end titles or try to know the cast, writer, director of the project. The cast has done a good job but you are not going to remember them by their character names. You will thank them for giving you some good moments but you won’t be eagerly waiting for their new projects.
All in all a nice experience but way behind in leaving a mark in our memories.
